Displayed is a red-background patent illustration for an internal combustion engine, credited to Rudolf Diesel and patented on August 9, 1898. The white lines and text outline various components and designs of the engine as depicted in the diagrams labeled from Figure 6 to Figure 15. At the bottom, signatures of witnesses and the attorney affirm the legitimacy of the patent document.
